Day 1 (Sunday, August 31, 2003) - We arrived in Rome just before 8:00 a.m. and immediately got on a train headed south for Naples where we were supposed to catch a second train for Sorrento. We had a little trouble figuring out the trains and lost about an hour by getting on the wrong train but we eventually got everything straightened out and made it to Sorrento by the afternoon. Our hotel was beautiful and had a fantastic view of the ocean. After dropping off our suitcases, we took the hotel shuttle into town and wandered around Piazza Tasso while taking a few pictures. We stopped at Ristorante Tasso for dinner. We were both exhausted from the plane ride and a bit jet lagged so we headed straight back to the hotel to get some sleep after dinner. |

Day 2 (Monday, September 1, 2003) - We got up early and headed straight back for Piazza Tasso where we caught a ferry to Capri Island. Capri was beautiful. We took a cable car up to the top where there were a lot of little shops and a lot of people. After wandering around a bit we headed back down to the port and grabbed some lunch at a little seaside restaurant while we waited to buy a ticket to Amalfi. The ferry to Amalfi was a hydroplane that lifts up out of the water as it gathers speed. Once in Amalfi we wandered around town a bit and saw the Amalfi Duomo, our first of many Duomos we would see while in Italy (apparently Duomo refers to the main cathedral in each town.) Next, we caught a bus that would take us up the famous Amalfi coast to Positano. The drive up the coast was breathtakingly beautiful. Our original intention was to get off at Positano and have dinner but we weren't yet hungry so we just did a bit of shopping before catching another bus back to Sorrento. Back in Sorrento we stopped at a restaurant for dinner. After we finished eating we were treated to an impromptu magic show that was performed by another customer at the table next to us. |
